AUSTRALIAN SUPER
MAINTAIN THE CURRENT CODE BASE, WHILE ADDING NEW FEATURE REQUESTS
The Australian Super contract was very interesting for me, after leveling up my skills quickly in React, Typescript & GraphQL on my last contract with **Golf Australia,**this contract took me back to the foundations of Web Development.
Our job was to maintain & build components using Javascript, HTML & CSS, leverage Sitecore to render the components into the Australian Super website.
This project taught me about
- Code base patterns. How to write code consistently & debug stale code bringing it up to standards with the current code base.
- The importance of having a strong deployment pipeline to ensure the code being delivered was thoroughly tested.
- Researching how to do something first is faster than trying to do something before you know how to do it.
- The importance of team culture & playing to each others strengths to get things done faste
- Rohan was the Tech Lead, his attention to detail & process of making hard decisions to this day still impresses me. He listens to understand, rather than judge making the entire team feel safe to be honest. I have taken this approach to leadership into every contract since AKQA.
Culture is fast, Ignorance is slow.
- During this contract we had to move 5000 employees into a virtual environment in 48 hours. AKQA did this gracefully, highlighting the importance of strong communication.
I can see why AKQA is often ranked as one of the best agencies in Australia. From the start to finish of my contract I learned skills that I still lean on today, to deliver client projects above expectations.
