STAN
THE BIGGEST DEAL IN ENTERTAINMENT, TAKES ON THE OLYMPICS, THIS IS HOW WE DID IT!
From day one at Stan.com.au, it was clear that the level of technical expertise and team collaboration was on a whole new level. This contract provided me with an incredible opportunity to push the boundaries of what I thought was possible, particularly in the TV deployment of one of the most ambitious projects I’ve been a part of, the 2024 Olympics.
The tech stack at Stan is impressive, well-architected and fast to get started. Working with this talented team of developers was like being part of a finely tuned orchestra, where each person’s expertise contributed to the seamless flow of work. The pace was intense, but the collaborative environment inspired me to continually learn and contribute more.
In the lead-up to the Olympics, we encountered significant challenges, from deployment cycles to optimizing TV platform performance. Each time, we’d come together in small groups to tackle these hurdles, and after brainstorming solutions, one of us would take the lead to implement the fix. This approach strengthened the team with every iteration, fostering resilience and adaptability with each development cycle.
This experience underscored the power of collaboration and how teamwork can overcome even the most complex problems. It’s a lesson I carry with me to this day, ensuring that every project I contribute to leaves the team stronger than when it began.
A major highlight of my time at Stan was developing the main Olympic Header Component, the very first component users see when the app initially loads. Following that, I dove into developing the live events components. Have a think about how often you change your TV time. This was a unique challenge, accounting for daylight savings & timezones, when determining if an event was live. I achieved this by recording the users last login time and calculating the seconds that had elapsed, Creating a solution that showed live event components in real-time.
I also had the opportunity to collaborate on the search page, where three of us worked on individual components separately, then brought them together to create a seamless user experience. This task showcased the flexibility and speed with which we could deliver new features for TV platforms.
I am incredibly proud of the work we accomplished at Stan, particularly during such a critical period of the Olympics. Collaborating with such an extraordinary team, where culture, communication, and technical skill were equally valued, has been a career highlight. It’s an honor to have contributed to such a major project.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for Stan.com.au
